Of West Newton, passed away peacefully with loving family by her side on Sunday afternoon September 4, 2016 in Newton - Wellesley Hospital at the age of 99.
Born on July 4, 1917 in Newton, daughter of the late John and Antoinette (Libre) Russo, Mary was raised, educated and her entire life in Newton.
Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother throughout her life. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking, especially cookies, watching the New England Patriot's and was a passionate Boston Red Sox Fan. Her greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her devoted & loving daughter-in-law Carole M. (Quaranto) Cappello of West Newton, her cherished grandsons James J. "Jay" Cappello of Roslindale and Marc D. Cappello and his wife Dana of Natick, her adoring great grandchildren Stella, Charlie and Lucy, her dear brother Peter Russo and brother-in-law John Cappello both of Weston. In addition she is survived by many nieces & nephews.
She was the sister of the late Rose LaPierre, Elizabeth Teti, Lena Bergantino, Joseph, Domenic, John and Samuel Russo.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in Celebration of Mary's Life on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. from the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco and Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Bernard's Church, at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Newton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
