Obituary for Marie Meloncourt (Brizard)

Of Cambridge, entered eternal rest & peace Wednesday July 27th, 2016 at the Hospital after a long illness at the age of 80.

Born on September 12, 1935 in Haiti; beloved daughter of Dumond Brizard and Therese Bonet; Marie immigrated to the United States in 1979 and resided with her family in the Mattapan and Dorchester sections of Boston before moving to Cambridge in 2004.

Marie was a selfless, caring, hard-working, strong and generous person. She was the Proprietor of her own dressmaking business in Haiti. After coming to the United States she worked for the Borden and Necco Confectionary Candy Manufacturers until retirement. She was very hardworking; at times working two jobs during those years.

She was an active and devoted member of Saint Angela’s Church on Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan. In Haiti, she was in the choir and even considered becoming a nun. The most important part of her life was her Faith and Family; she loved spending time with everyone. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, cooking, singing, and visiting family and friends. She was selfless and generous. She would give and help others whether it was bringing people food or caring for anyone who was sick.

She is survived by her husband George Meloncourt, her devoted & loving daughter Marie I. Brizard and her husband Joseph Rizza of Southborough, her dear siblings Madelaine of Cambridge, Eliane and Anne both of Dorchester, and Jacques Brizard of Virginia, and her cherished niece Ginette Bouquet and her husband Gerald. In addition she is survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her dear brother Louis Brizard.
