Jim hits the lottery
At 18 Jim was smarter than the average bear. He studied hard and was very well known in our class of about 30 students at Wentworth that took every class together every day. Yes, it was like military school back then. When Jim entered the classroom he spoke to all openly as if we were waiting to hear the latest antics of his ride to school or what happened last night or who he was kidding with during the day. He always took center stage and the professors liked his openness. All paid attention to his quick smart questions and answers to the workload or life. He was very advanced for his young years in being a kind soul on this planet. I remember one day when he announced he hit the lottery by playing a licence plate number of a car (maybe 6009) he saw and hit the exact number for $6,000. At first we thought he was kidding but his rejoiceful voice told us it was no joke. He even knew the owner of the car. I believe he said it was the clerk of courts car in Cambridge. I think he went out and bought a Bronco. I was very happy for him and thought how great it was that this happy go lucky guy hit and didn't have to think of using the money to pay tuition. I still remember the light hearted voice of happiness he had and how we all shared his good fortune and rejoicing with him. He was the center of attention in our class every day and we loved the break in stress of studies he brought us. I strugged with class but he floated through it all. I have to say that the education I received at Wentworth was fantasic and lead to the outstanding career I've had and have noticed Jim had. What a kidder he was all the time even though the workload was brutal. I miss him.
