Of Waltham, passed away, Sunday April, 3, 2016 at home. She was 95.
Born and raised in Filicudi, Italy to the late Calogero and Maria (Pinzone) Amorelli, she came to the United States when she was 13. She grew up in Waltham on River St., where she lived for many years before she and her beloved late husband Stephen Bonica built their home on Lafayette Street, where she has lived ever since.
As a young woman, Lena worked at Puritan Dress in Waltham and later retired as a waitress at the Colonial Kitchen in Waltham. Her most important job was raising her family and watching over her grandchildren. In her spare time Lena enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending many winters in Florida with family and friends.
She is survived by her children RoseMarie and Stephen and his wife Linda, her grandchildren: Jeff , Greg, and Stephen James Bonica, and her extended family both here and in Australia.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services at the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons, Saturday at 9 a.m. with A Mass of Christian burial in celebration of Lena's life at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4-8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
