The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

My dear friend

Shauna and I have been friends since we were kids. We walked together through the awkwardness of middle school, the struggles of family, the first broken hearts of young love. I loved her dearly and was trying to think of a single story that would encapsulate who she was. But what words would be enough?

I thought back to this past year. We had *just* reconnected seriously and started again with long phone calls, texts, emails. I found out I was pregnant with my 2nd child and was SO sick. I mentioned to her that I couldnt even stand to open the refridgerator let alone make my family dinner in passing and she said "Dont worry, I'll take care of it." I sweet but impossible proposal considering we lived 3000+ miles apart.

The next week- actually less than that I think- an entire cooler FULL of gormet freezer meals showed up at my front door. The exhaustion of the pregnancy and the overwhelming kindness caused me- a total noncryer- to burst into tears. I called Shauna and she just shrugged it off like it was nothing.

Thats who Shauna was. A girl who was smart, kind, and intelligent. She was a friend no matter if you saw each other that day or hadnt spoken in years. Her heart was huge and I am broken by her passing. I love you Shauna.
