Obituary for Roy C. MacLean

Roy Charles Maclean of Newton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home at the age of 91.

Born on Monday, April 4, 1932; son of the late George MacLean and Irene (Robillard) MacLean. Roy was born and raised in Newton where he lived for 91 years.

Family was always first and foremost in Roy’s life; he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Roy was an avid athlete and throughout his life, he enjoyed watching his kids and grandchildren at every sporting event possible. You could always find him with a deck of cards and a competitive spirit, a piece of candy in his hand and an extra in his pocket for you and a story to tell. He loved sitting on the front walk with a popsicle in his hand, happy to talk to any neighbor that passed by.

Roy was an in-country Korean War United States Marine Corp Veteran. He was a carpenter by trade his whole life and after retirement, you could find him working on various projects through the years for family and friends. In his later years, summers were spent riding the waves at Old Orchard Beach with his grandkids. He enjoyed tending to his yard, working out at the gym, participating in local road races, playing cards and cribbage.

Roy met Mary Flynn at a party after returning from Korea in 1957 and they spent the next 65 years building a life filled with love and family. Dashing Roy and Marvelous Mary are now together once again, hand in hand, dancing in the sky.

Roy is survived by his devoted & loving children Maureen MacLean and her partner Troy Thompkins of Newton; Kelly Lucchetti and her husband Mario of Stoughton; Scott MacLean and his wife Theresa Leone of Holliston; Mary MacLean and her partner Joseph Sidelinger of Waltham; Stacey Annese of Newton; and Angus MacLean of Newton. In addition, he leaves 13 cherished grandchildren, 5 adoring great-grandchildren and many loving nieces & nephews, who will all miss him dearly.
