Obituary for Dr. John D. Meola Sr.

Dr. John D.  Meola Sr.
of Waltham passed away peacefully in his home August 10, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 94.

John was the beloved husband of Barbara B (Rufo) for 67 years. He was the son of the late Joe & Rose Meola of Waltham and proceeded in death by his sister Maria Fontana. John was the devoted father of Dr. John D. Meola Jr. and daughter-in-law Christen of Weston, MA; Donna Van Kleeck and son-in-law Peter of Dover, MA; Joseph Meola and daughter-in-law Annie of Avondale, PA; Barbara Ford and son-in-law Dr. Richard of Renton, WA and Dr. Damian D. Meola and daughter-in-law Christina of Lynnfield, MA. He is preceded in death by his son Robert Meola and his sister Maria Fontana. In addition he is survived by 12 grandchildren.

John was born on June 12, 1923 in Avellino, Italy. He came to the United States in 1930 and eventually settled a few years later in Waltham, MA. John was a 1941 graduate of Waltham High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army before returning to Northeastern University. He went on to Georgetown University Dental School graduating June of 1954 whereby he became a dentist and established a dental practice on Main Street in Waltham.

John was a World War 2 Army veteran. He was involved in many charitable organizations such as the Orphans of Italy and March of Dimes. He was a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society, the Charles River Yacht Club and St. Jude’s Church on Main Street in Waltham. John treasured many enjoyable years on Cape Cod with family, relatives and friends and loved to read.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of John's Life from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St, WALTHAM on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Jude’s Church, 147 Main St, Waltham at 11:00 a.m. Interment with United States Army Military Honors will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Monday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m.
