Obituary for Gloria Ann Guzzi

Of West Newton, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the family home on Friday March 10th, 2017 at the age of 88.

Born on December 9, 1928 in Newton; beloved daughter of the late Louis W. Guzzi and Anna J. (Crupi) Guzzi, Gloria was a lifelong resident of Newton. She was born in the family home on Oak Street in Newton and passed away peacefully in the family home on Dearborn Street in Newton, having never spent a single day in a hospital during her 88 years.

Her great health throughout her life came from a strong faith in her God. Gloria was an active and devoted member of the Corpus Christi / Saint Bernard Parish Community. Her Faith and her family were the central focus of her life. She spent many hours volunteering for numerous activities with the church; and assisted at hundreds of funeral masses carrying the crucifix to be placed on the casket of parishioners.

Never having children of her own, she was a mother like figure to her 3 nephews and their children. They turned to her for guidance and advice. She loved and cared for each of them as her own, and cherished the moments spent with all her family.

A graduate of Newton High School with the Class of 1946, Gloria was employed as a Secretary with the Ryerson Steel Corporation for over 35 years. She also assisted as a Poll Worker with the City of Newton for numerous city, state and federal government elections at the Davis School for Ward #4 Precinct #3.

When she was not busy volunteering for the church or working; Gloria enjoyed working out and keeping in shape by going to the gym with her nephew until she was 85.

The love that she shared with her family & friends will live on in the hearts and minds all she touched throughout her life.

Gloria is survived by her devoted & loving brother Peter S. Guzzi of West Newton, her cherished nephews Michael Guzzi and his wife Beth, Richard Guzzi and his wife Linda, her adoring great nieces and great nephews Julie Dell, Amanda Fennel, Brian, Eric, Christopher Nash, Ashley, and Allyson, her great great nieces & nephews Owen, Lilli, Lyla McGilvray, and Ethan and Hannah.

Dear sister of the late Domenic Guzzi and his wife Josephine and aunt of the late David Guzzi.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Gloria’s Life from the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St, WALTHAM on Thursday morning March 16th at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Bernard’s Church, 1523 Washington St, West Newton at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting Hours will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons on Wednesday March 15th from 4 – 8 p.m. Parking attendants on duty.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to Saint Bernard's Church, 1523 Washington Street, Newton, MA.
