Of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Friday January 6th, 2017 in Newton - Wellesley Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 91.
Born on November 19, 1925 in the Brighton section of Boston; son of the late Stephen and Constance (Faga) Lopez, Vinny was raised in Brighton and moved to Waltham over 60 years ago.
Vinny was employed as a Truck Driver with Lopez Trucking & Waltham School Bus Company. He later went on to work for Brandeis University as a Student Driver in Public Safety Division until his retirement.
He served proudly with the United States Marine Corps during World War II; and had been a longtime member of the 1st Marine Division Association and the China Marine Association.
Vinny had a love for music and for years had a band called the "Dreamers" and the "Vincent Lopez Band". He played for numerous weddings and different functions throughout Massachusetts.
He was an outgoing person, always socializing and interacting with others especially at Market Basket on Main Street in Waltham where he often shopped an talked to everyone in the store.
He liked to travel and went on many trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas. He enjoyed gambling and dining out.
Vinny is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years to Agnes (Violanti) Lopez, his devoted and loving children Stephen Lopez and his wife Nancy of GA, Dana Love and his loving companion Marie of Revere, Donna Bellan and her husband Michael of Milford and Debbie Chaisson and her husband Bernie of Waltham, his cherished grandchildren Kim, Theresa, Dana, Michael, Derek, Eric and Alex, and his dear sister Rosemarie Curtin of Watertown. In addition he is survived by 6 adored great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews.
Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Vincent's Life from the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St, WALTHAM on Saturday morning Jan.14th at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham at 9:30 a.m. Interment with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting Hours will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel on Friday Jan. 13th from 3 – 7 p.m. Parking attendants on duty.
