Of Belmont, passed away, Saturday, June 16, 2016, at the Meadowgreen Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 96.

Born in Boston, August 4, 1919, to the late Francesco and Maria (Berenato) Arena, she was a lifelong resident of Belmont.

Mary was an active member of the Maria Montessori Belmont Lodge for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling taking trips to Foxwoods, and playing poker with her card group every Tuesday night. She also loved cooking, following the local sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots, and most of all spending time with her family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Domenic "PeeWee" Basile, Sr. and sister of the late Grace Cohen, Stephen, Charles, Anthony, and Thomas Arena.

She is survived by her loving children Frank Basile of Belmont, Mary McMillan and her husband William of Belmont, and Domenic Basile, Jr. and his wife Lisa (Piccione) of Winchester, her cherished grandchildren Michael Mahoney and his wife Erin of Belmont, Christopher McMillan and his wife Lindsey of Newton, Nicole Basile Rebolo and her husband Justin of Belmont, and Marissa and Anthony Basile, both of Winchester. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Michael Brooke, Patrick, Michaela, and Domenic, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 325 Trapelo Rd., Belmont, Wednesday at 8 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Mary's life at Saint Luke's Church., 132 Lexington St., Belmont, at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
