Obituary for Frederick A. "Fred" Schueler

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Monday evening May 2nd, 2016 surrounded by his loving family in his home after a brief illness at the age of 82.

Born November 20, 1933 in Boston; son of the late E. Fred Schueler and Florence (Davis) Schueler, Fred was a lifelong resident of Waltham. For over 46 years the family spent many summers at Lake Pemaquid in Maine, where Fred found the best relaxation just sitting outside reading the newspaper.

A graduate of Waltham High School with the Class of 1950, Fred joined the United States Air Force after high school and proudly served his country during the Korean War in Germany.

During his service to our country in the Air Force, Fred was a Firefighter, so naturally after he returned home he joined the Fire Department for the Massachusetts Port Authority as a Firefighter on the “Crash Crew” stationed at Boston’s Logan International Airport for over 32 years until his retirement. He had a passion for Fire service throughout his life. He was a member of Massachusetts Professional Firefighters Association Port Authority Local #S2 and the International Association of Firefighters (I.A.F.F.).

Fred was big in stature and generous in spirit. He would light up a room with his presence, always known as the comedian and “Captain Videographer”; he enjoyed a good laugh and being the life of the party

As a lifelong resident of Waltham, Fred spent the majority of his life at the family home where he grew up on Albemarle Road. During the Christmas season most everyone in Waltham knew of the Schueler Family Christmas Light display which illuminated the Waltham sky. Fred loved the holidays and parties, but Christmas was especially his favorite season. Numerous people throughout Waltham and the surrounding communities would travel to the family home to see the magnificent display of Christmas lights and ornaments. It brought him the greatest joy seeing all the people come by the house and spreading the Christmas spirit.

In his spare time Fred loved going camping in Maine, boating, doing puzzles, photography, riding his motorcycle, and was an avid fan of the New York Giants Football team.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Barbara (Schreffler) Schueler, his loving & devoted children David Schueler of Waltham, Deborah Pollard of Milford, NH, Daniel Schueler and his wife Lynan of Merrimack, NH, Stephen Schueler and his wife Judy of Merrimack, NH, and Waltham Firefighter Michael Schueler and his wife Susan of Waltham, MA.

In addition he is survived by his 11 cherished grandchildren, 4adoring great grandchildren, and Extended Family & countless Friends.
