Of Waltham, passed away peacefully early Monday morning August 3rd, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 79.
Born on December 13, 1935 in Waltham; son of the late John Battaglino and Julia (Masulla) {Battaglino} Giangregorio and Charles Giangregorio, John was a lifelong resident of Waltham while enjoying a home in Boca Raton, Florida for many years during the winter months.
He proudly served with the United States Army during the Korean War.
John worked in retail until establishing College Stores Associates. He continued to work with Barnes and Noble and was dedicated to political fundraising and civic organizations throughout his life. He was a member of the Board of Trustees at Bentley University and Boston University for many years.
His supreme generosity included his dedication to developing and supporting the (GWARC) Greater Waltham ARC along with countless local charitable organizations like (WCI) Work, Community, Independence. He was amazing for what people knew he did but even more amazing for how many things he quietly did that people didn’t know.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, cards, horseracing, cooking and gardening.
His life was an inspiration to all who knew him. His greatest joys were time spent with family and friends.
Dear husband of the late Blanche I. (Durkee) Battaglino, and brother of the late Maryann Beauregard and Lawrence Giangregorio.
