Of Carver formerly of Waltham, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon May 17th, 2015 surrounded by her loving family in the Life Care Center of Plymouth at the age of 97.
Born on September 12, 1917 in Worcester; daughter of the late James and Nora Theresa (Moriarty) Callahan, Barbara was raised in Worcester and lived for 10 years in Sterling before moving to Waltham in 1962 where she raised her family. She has lived with her daughter in Carver for the past 6 years.
Barbara was a member of the Waltham Women's Club and the North Waltham Senior Citizens Organization.
Family was the most important aspect of Barbara's Life. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, reading, dancing but most especially swimming. She was a member of the Waltham Boys & Girls 1000 mile Swimmer Club.
Beloved wife of the late Bernard E. Scanlon Sr.
She is survived by her devoted & loving children Bernard E. Scanlon Jr. of West Boylston, Jane M. Sottak and her husband Sherman of Carver, Shelia F. Kobs and her husband Leo of Mattapoisett, James A. Scanlon and his wife Patricia of Marlborough, and Christine M. MacKenzie and her husband Roderick of Roswell, Georgia, and her dear brother Francis Callahan of Natick. In addition she is survived by 14 cherished grandchildren, 14 adoring great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Friday morning May 22nd at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Barbara's Life at Saint Mary's Church, 145 School Street, Waltham at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Rural Cemetery in Worcester. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Thursday May 21st from 4 - 8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
