Of Fredericksburg, Virginia died suddenly Friday morning at V.C.U. Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia from complications from a Liver Transplant.
Born in Boston Massachusetts, he had been a resident of Waltham for many years. He attended Waltham Schools and Graduated with the Waltham High School Class of 1965, where he was standout Basketball player and is a member of the Waltham High School sports Hall of Fame.
Bill went on to Providence College where he continued his love of Basketball. After which he was drafted into military service during the Vietnam War in 1968. That was the beginning of his lifelong military career with the United States Air Force and after completion of his military service Bill went on to become a civil service employee for the Government assigned to the Pentagon.
He served with the US Air Force for 25 years. His assignments were at the Lackland and Bergstrom Air Force Bases in Texas, he served two tours in the Republic of Vietnam at Tan Son Nhut and Phu Cat, after Vietnam his next assignment was with NATO in Shape, Belgium and Griffiss Air Force Base in New York and the then the Pentagon. He retired as "Cap" Staff Sgt. In 1992.
Mr. Judkins had over 47 years of professional experience in the Federal Government, most recently as a Contractor/Admin Specialist for the Joint Concepts to Capabilities (JCCD) he also assist the J7 Directorate in the same capacity. He also served as the Assistant Budget Officer and Security Manager for the Division. He oversa all aspects of Administration until his recent retirement du to his illness.
Mr. Judkins loved Music and was his wife Linda's "Music Man", they would travel to Washington D.C. and surrounding universities to attend different musicals and plays.
Bill was a very family orientated man, he loved traveling to visit with his family in New England, especially Cape Cod, vacationing in Canada, Maine, Vermont, and Maryland. He had hoped to one day cross the country in an RV and to cruise to Alaska with his wife and sister Nancy and family.
He will be remembered as a "Jokester", he loved to make people laugh, he especially loved to see his wife Linda laugh and smile.
Bill loved sports and was instrumental in creating the Pentagon Athletic Center and has a Plaque commemorating his initiative. As a member he played ball there.
He was the son of the late William Lewis Judkins Sr. & Anna Mary (Logsdon) and the brother of the late Marianne Judkins Maryley.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda (Schooner) Judkins, he is also survived by Kay Judkins mother of his daughters Melissa Judkins and Kimberley (Judkins) Rasmussen, his sisters Judith Judkins of CA and Nancy Dyer and Linda Judkins of Clinton, his brother Ronald Judkins of Wilmington, and his 2 grandchildren Kailey Mae Rasmussen and Kevin Rasmussen, Jr. In addition he leaves many Nieces & Nephews, as well as great Nieces & Nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services from the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons, 773 Moody Street, Waltham Friday at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of life at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, Trapelo Road Waltham at 10: 00 a.m. Interment with full Military Honors will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons on Thursday from 2-4 & 6- 8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
