Alden S. Mayo of Waltham passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, his family by his side, at the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick. He was 88.
Alden was a life long resident of Waltham, born on February 9, 1927 to Sheldon and Caroline (Palmer) Mayo and served honorably in the United States Army during World War II.
Alden attended Northeastern University, where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Science and while working at Raytheon Corporation. He worked in the Microwave and Power Tube Division for 44 years, where he made life long friends and traveled frequently to Egypt and Japan.
During his retirement, Alden enjoyed volunteering at Raytheon Archives, preserving some of the work and innovations established at Raytheon.
Alden was a member of the Waltham Triad Lodge, was an avid reader and stamp collector and enjoyed listening to Jazz. He had a great love for animals and he could often be found with either his dog by his side or his cat on his lap.
Lovingly missed by his son Stephen Mayo of Florida, his son James and his partner Dianne Emmetts of Waltham, sister Priscilla Knox of Florida, eight grandchildren and Dianne's two son's.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in celebration of Alden's life at the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM, Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
