Obituary for John "Jack" Holt

Of Belmont, passed away peacefully Monday February 16th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at Meadow Green Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waltham after a long illness at the age of 81.

Born on November 14, 1933 in Newton; son of the late of Robert and Louise (Morton) Holt, Jack was raised in Newton and has been a resident of Belmont for the past 56 years. After his retirement from the Fire Department Jack spent 10 years vacationing at his home in Fryeburg, Maine.

Jack attended Newton Trade School, and worked as a young man at West End Chevrolet in Waltham as a Mechanic for several years.

He began a career in fire service with the Town of Needham Fire Department and transferred to the Town of Belmont Fire Department. He was appointed to the Belmont Fire Department on September 22, 1963, and was assigned to Engine Company 3 and retired on June 30, 1992 after serving the Town of Belmont honorably for over 28 years. He was a member of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts Association.

Jack served proudly with the United States Navy during the Korean War.

A passion of Jack’s was spending time at his home in Maine fishing.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Mary Holt, his loving children John Holt and his wife Karen of Pascoag, Rhode Island and Joyce Cote and her husband Bob of Chelmsford, his cherished granddaughters Leanne, Allison and Carolyn, his dear sisters Dorothy Adams of Las Vegas, Nevada and Priscilla Holt of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Brother of the late Robert Holt and Paul Holt. In addition he is survived by many nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services in celebration of John’s Life will be held PRIVATE for his family at a later date.
