Born on Cape Breton Island, Canada in 1923, the last of eleven children. He is survived by his spouse of 54 years, Louise (Goguen) Cormier. His daughter Sylvia Cormier of Canton, MA and his son Allen Cormier along with his wife Erica (Champion) and their two children, Renee and Shaye Cormier.
Leo served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 3 years.
He attended the Nova Scotia College of Art. After graduation he moved to Montreal and worked as a lettering artist for the Montreal Stencil Works. He migrated to Waltham and worked for J.L. Thompson and Logan Air Port for Pan Am airways for 2 years. He relocated to Florida, working for Air Mod doing Aircraft modifications. When he returned to Waltham, he applied for his US Citizenship. He worked for Polaroid Corporation for 26 years as a Patent Illustrator. After retiring from Polaroid, he worked for Artisan Industries.
Leo later learned to do calligraphy and started to do wedding invitations. He then started to create his art and calligraphy pictorials which measure 6 feet high and 54 inches wide when framed. His art work is located in the Waltham City Hall, the Waltham Library, the Kennedy Middle School, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Faneuil Hall Boston, the State House in Boston and in Cheticamp, N.S.
Leo was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Nellie Cormier, his siblings, Lillian, Florence, Annie, Sabina, Wilbert, Alfred, Raymond, Louie, Linus and James. Along with immediate family, Leo is survived by many extended family members.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM Friday at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Leo's life at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St.,Waltham at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery. Visting hours will be held Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty
