Obituary for William D. MacPherson

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully Saturday morning November 22nd, 2014 at the EPOCH Senior Healthcare Assisted Living Facility in Weston at the age of 87.

Born on January 10, 1927 in Quincy; son of the late Roderick and Annie (Webb) MacPherson, Bill was raised in Quincy and moved to Waltham in 1949.

A graduate of Quincy High School, Bill furthered his education at Bentley College in Boston. Bill was employed as an Accountant throughout his life at the Howard Johnson Corporate Office and retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Comptroller’s Office.

He proudly served with the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post #156 in Waltham.

Bill loved spending time with his family especially attending all of his grandchildren’s events. He was an avid Boston sports fan following the Red Sox, Celtic’s and New England Patriot’s.

Beloved husband for 57 years to the late Marion B. (Cantwell) MacPherson.

He is survived by his loving children Roderick MacPherson of Waltham, formerly of Wayland, Waltham Police Chief Keith D. MacPherson and his wife Eileen (Devlin) MacPherson of Waltham, and Alison Prescott of Waltham, his cherished grandchildren Melissa Williams, Andrew, Heather, Ian, Waltham Police Officer Kaitlyn, Daniel, Ryan and Devin MacPherson, Erin Smith, Jesse and Justin Prescott, his adored great grandchildren Andrew and Jacob Williams, Lily, Stella and Gannon MacPherson, and his dear siblings Muriel Maver and Gordon MacPherson both of Braintree. In addition he is survived by several nieces & nephews.

Devoted father-in-law of the late Mark C. Prescott and Karen (McCluskey) MacPherson, and brother of the late Roderick Maxwell MacPherson.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of William’s Life in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons on Wednesday Nov. 26th morning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held in the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Tuesday Nov. 25th from 4 – 8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
