Of Newton, passed away peacefully Thursday evening October 30th, 2014 with beloved family & friends by her side at home after a long illness at the age of 73.
Born on June 2, 1941 in Waltham; daughter of the late Pasquale and M. Theresa (Collins) Capello, Brenda was a lifelong resident of Newton.
A graduate of Newton High School, Brenda furthered her education at the American Institute for Banking, Programs for Women in Politics and Government, Bentley College Human Resource Management.
From 1970 – 1977, Brenda was employed at the University Bank and Trust Company in Waltham as Administrative Vice-President responsible for coordination and management of personnel, marketing and public relations programs. From 1960 – 1970 she worked for the Guaranty Trust Company in Waltham as Assistant Vice-President – Commercial Loan Officer. In February of 1977 Brenda was appointed Director of Personal and Worker’s Compensation Agent for the City of Waltham. She was responsible for all personnel functions, assist senior and other managers in the recruitment, selection and retention of employees. She administered college work-study programs, summer jobs for Waltham youth and implemented employee-training programs.
Brenda was a devoted member of the Waltham and Newton communities. Her many community and professional affiliations included the Massachusetts Municipal Personnel Association – Past Chairperson, Current Member Waltham Partnership for Youth – Clerk, Board Member Greater Waltham Association for Retarded Persons – Past Chairperson, Board of Directors Waltham Boys and Girls Club – Board Member Waltham West Suburban Chamber of Commerce – Member Youth Opposed to Using – Board Member Friends of the Gathering Place – Member Waltham Business & Professional Women’s Club – Past President, Scholarship Chair Charles River Museum of Industry – Member Management Committee, Trustee Newton Democratic Committee – Member, Delegate, Democratic Convention June 2003, Neighbors Who Care Task Force – Member Advocate of Women’s Safety & Domestic Violence Issues, Employer Support for the Reservist and Guard – Member, Board Member of the Maristhill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Board Member for the former Waltham Hospital and a Member of the Waltham Twilight Golf League.
For her tireless efforts in making a stronger community to live and work she was the recipient of the Robert and Thomas McNamara Community Service Award in1997.
In her spare time Brenda was passionate about golfing but she loved to spend time with her family and her friends especially traveling.
She is survived by her loving and dear sister Barbara Buckley in California, her cherished nieces Mary Theresa Cavallo, Patsy Moran, and Lisa Hamilton, nephews Ryan Buckley and his wife Jana Broughton, Al and Steven Cavallo, her great nieces Francesca, Sophia, and Melia and great nephew Andrew.
Beloved sister of the late Albert Cavallo and his wife Nancy Cavallo.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of Brenda’s Life in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Saturday morning Nov. 8th at 10:00 a.m. Visiting Hours will be held in the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home on Friday Nov. 7th from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
