Of Waltham, passed away peacefully late Thursday morning February 6th, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 63.

Born on January 23, 1951 in Belmont; son of the late Vincenzio and Raffaela (Arno) Macaudda, Tony was raised in Belmont and lived most of his life before moving to Lexington for 8 years and then to Waltham 20 years ago.

A graduate of Belmont High School with the Class of 1970, Tony enlisted in the United States Navy June of 1970 with Special UDT Training in San Diego, California. He was attached to the 7th fleet Naval Command while in Vietnam during Operation Sling Shot.

Honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1975, he enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard HC 182 Infantry in Melrose, MA. He served as a National Guard Recruiter and a Motor Pool Sergeant being honorably discharged in 1979.

Tony was a proud and decorated Veteran who loved serving his country and fellow man. He continued to serve Veterans and stand up for Veterans and their families as a Life Member and Commander of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post #156 Waltham in 1984, and currently as Department Vice-Commander of The American Legion of Massachusetts. He was a Life Member Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 8818 in Cambridge, MA and as Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars District #18 in Massachusetts. He served as Council President for the Belmont Allied Veterans and as the Grand Marshal for the Memorial Day Committee in the Town of Belmont from 1984 to 1989. He continued his service with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary as a Vessel Examiner from 1990 to 2000 at the Coast Guard Group Boston, MA.

In 1980, Tony attended Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training and became a Member of the Belmont Special Auxiliary Police Department retiring in 2000 as Captain.

He enjoyed boating, fishing and the ocean and was the Past Commodore for the Newton Yacht Club.

Tony owned and operated AJ Macaudda Builders a General Contracting Business for over 30 years.

He was passionate about Veterans, Veterans organizations, Veterans Services and Benefits but nothing was more important than his family. His family was his everything he lived and breathed for his wife, children and grandchildren. Family events, family functions and any family gathering is what he lived for. He had a love for cooking for the family and when he was younger he enjoyed music and playing in a band called “Anthony and the Outcasts”. Outside of family he was a devoted Boston Red Sox Fan and took great pleasure in them winning the World Series.

He was outgoing, fun loving, always lending a hand to someone in need or just being there for a service or a cause. His memory and legacy will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those whom he loved and he touched in such a short time.

He is survived by his beloved wife and soul mate of 32 years Annette Macaudda, his loving & devoted children Framingham Police Detective Stacey Fresco and her husband Chuck of Framingham, Cynthia Macaudda and her fiancée Jason Kaleta of Florida, and Michelle Chapman and her husband Christopher of Bedford, his cherished grandchildren and the pride of his life Kyle Anthony, Chase, Rylee, Sam and Sophie, his dear siblings Joseph Macauda and his wife Maryann of Falmouth and Mary Cartwright and her husband Lewis of Belmont. In addition he is survived by many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Funeral Services will be held from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels, 325 Trapelo Road, BELMONT on Tuesday morning Feb. 11th at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Anthony’s Life at Saint Luke’s Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont at 10:30 a.m. Interment with United States Navy Military Honors will follow at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Watertown. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Monday Feb. 10th from 4 – 8 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking.
